How far along? 12 weeks
How big is baby? About the size of an apricot or a plum, weighing in at a mighty half an ounce.
Maternity clothes? Oh gosh yes. I love my stretchy, stretchy pants. I’ve also been living in this maternity sweatshirt/tunic thing from Target. SO COMFY.
Stretch marks? Nope.
Sleep? Eh. Waking up regularly at least once a night to go pee. I realized this week that I won’t be sleeping through the night again for at least a full year and oh god I can’t even contemplate that right now. *sobs*
Best moment this week? Christmas! Natalie in her little holiday dress and pigtails was the cutest.
Miss Anything? I’m not a big drinker; pre-pregnancy I would maybe have one glass of wine or a beer about every two weeks. But this week a nice, cold glass of Riesling sounded really, really good. I wouldn’t exactly say that I miss wine, since most days any alcohol just sounds gross, but this week was definitely an exception.
Movement? Too early, but since this is my second pregnancy I’ve heard that you might be able to feel movement as early as 15-16 weeks, depending on how everything is positioned in there. *waves at stomach* That’s soooo soon!
Food cravings? The intense, hit-you-in-the-gut cravings have really slowed down since 10 weeks, thank god. Because I’m pretty sure that’s what being a drug addict feels like. They’re not gone, just not as strong. Last night I thought miso soup sounded excellent, but then I ended up having a snack at 9 p.m. of lasagna. Pregnancy is weird.
Anything making you queasy or sick? Cat food, cat food, cat food. Let’s not talk about it. My parents also got Natalie this cute book called “Yummy Yucky” and it’s adorable, but then you get to the middle of the book and there are pages about eating earwax and boogers. Sorry Natalie, that book is staying out of the rotation for a while.
Have you started to show yet? Yep, getting there. Most of it is bloat/organs and things moving around to accommodate the growing uterus, but I can totally feel the edges of an actual baby bump.
Gender? Not finding out.
Belly Button in or out? Mostly in.
Wedding rings on or off? On.
Happy or Moody most of the time? Pretty happy!
Looking forward to? My first ultrasound is on Tuesday. We went back and forth about whether or not to do the first trimester screening (a blood test and an ultrasound that gives you more information about the baby’s risk of chromosomal abnormalities) and ultimately decided to do it, since it is completely non-invasive and you get an ultrasound, so, hi baby! I’m excited about that but honestly I just want to confirm that a) H2 is healthy so far and b) there’s only ONE in there. Still SO PARANOID about twins.
I can’t believe I’m almost at the end of the first trimester. This pregnancy has gone by roughly one million times faster that it did with Natalie. Overall I’ve felt much better than I did the first time around, so I’m sure that has something to do with it. But there’s also something to be said for the more relaxed vibe of a second pregnancy, when you’re not completely obsessed with reading all the baby books and pregnancy message boards (although I do still check out the boards for their entertainment value) and are totally convinced that your baby will have 13 toes because you ate a single piece of deli ham.
Plus there’s not a whole lot of time for literal navel gazing when I’m chasing Natalie around all day.
