Happy (belated) birthday, Dad

Today I want to give a little shout-out to my Dad – his birthday was on Sunday and we couldn’t be with him to celebrate, since he and my mom had the nerve to pack up and move to Tennessee just weeks after their granddaughter was born.

What, do we smell? It’s ok. You can tell me.

(I don’t blame them at all. I also despise New England winters and hope to join them in TN eventually.)

Dad, you are awesome. Now that I have a kid of my own, I’m starting to appreciate the enormity of everything you and mom have done for Leslie and me over the years. I couldn’t ask for better parenting role models than you guys.

Natalie is lucky to have you as a grandfather. Rock on, Dad.

PS. So sorry about the whole not-sleeping-through-the-night-til-I-was-a-year-old thing. Whenever I complain about Natalie’s sleep to Mom, she lovingly reminds me that karma’s a bitch. She’s got me there.

    Dear Sweet Alexis,
Thank you for your kind words. I confess I have not always felt deserving. If most of us parents knew how we would be tested, how our comfy little world would turn upside down, how much time we would spend “at our wits end”, we probably would just “take the blue pill – the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe” – Morpheous

But we chose to have children. And although each age has its own special challenges and a bunch of the craziness mentioned above, each stage of parenting also provides corresponding rewards and “highs” like no other. God provides what we need to make the whole thing work.

You and Leslie are the most wonderful blessings possible. Even in the toughest moments we never questioned taking the red pill. You both have showed me strengths and perseverance I never knew I had.
