Linking up with Jen.
Yeah, Christmas. I said it.
Now that Halloween is over all the stores and tv commercials are going full throttle holiday shopping extravaganza. Naturally you are a terrible parent if you don’t buy your kid everything from the Target toys catalog, because obviously. That makes me the worst parent ever because Natalie isn’t getting anything for Christmas.
I GAVE YOU THE GIFT OF LIFE, CHILD, WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT.
Actually, that’s not true. She will be getting one gift from us: a Christmas ornament.
My parents started a wonderful Christmas tradition with my sister and me many years ago of giving us an ornament that was special for some reason, either because it commemorated something that happened that year (like a vacation or a new skill we’d learned) or it reminded them of us. Each ornament always included a note that explained why they chose that particular one for us.
It’s a really great tradition that makes trimming the tree every year so much fun, since we spend most of the time rooting around in the boxes looking for our own ornaments and reading notes from Christmases past. I know Natalie won’t be able to appreciate this for many more years, but I’m still excited to get started.
I bought a great board book at Savers a few weeks ago – Your Personal Penguin, by Sandra Boynton. All of her books are really well done; even the board books manage to be clever, and the illustrations are quite funny. This book happens to come with a free song download that’s recorded by Davy Jones (yep, from the Monkees).
I have the song queued up on my phone at all times and we’ve been singing it at almost all diaper changes this week. Natalie loves it and I can’t get it out of my head. It’s a refreshing change from that stupid Miley Cyrus song that’s on the radio 24/7, because if I hear Wrecking Ball one more time I’m going to leap in front of one.
(if you want to give it a listen, you can find it here)
Ok, so! Sew! I finally set up my sewing machine yesterday, and after a few hiccups (all user error) I got rolling on sewing Natalie’s top. Um, you guys, it’s adorable. Seriously. There’s just one problem.
IT DOESN’T FIT OVER HER HEAD.
I think I know how to fix it, so I’ll be working on that during naps today. Here is the top so far being modeled by Bear, who has a squishier head than Natalie.
Time change, I hate you. That is all.
I’m overwhelmed by the seasonal beverage choices at Dunkin Donuts. I went through the drive through yesterday and saw a poster for their holiday flavors (eggnog, red velvet, peppermint mocha), PLUS they still have the fall pumpkin flavors. I was paralyzed by indecision and ordered my usual French Vanilla, a decision I now regret.
I don’t want to say this too loudly, but…Natalie’s morning nap has been an hour and a half every day so far this week. I don’t want to jinx us so I’m just going to back away slowly from this post.
[quietly hums the Personal Penguin song]
That’s all I got, folks. Just six things today. Happy weekend!
